April is a urban contemporary Métis artist. She was born in La Ronge Saskatchewan, and raised in Saskatoon Saskatchewan Canada. From an early age April expressed herself through painting and art. She was always drawn to the arts and gained an appreciation, love and respect for street art and graffiti while studying fashion design in Montreal Canada (1999-2002). She has over 20 years of experience as a stencil artist, with spray paint being her main medium. She is currently working on a series of protraits of the Indegenous peoples of Canada. She also uses acrylics, water colours, ink, pastels and other mediums. Her interest in trains came from her love of graffiti. In her work you will also find abstract dreamy landscapes, sometimes mixed with portraits, that sort of become part of the landscape. April is also a graphic designer and dabbles in interior design. You can also see a lot of her mural design work in the city of Saskatoon where she has designed murals for the Saskatoon Community Youth Arts Programming Inc. (SCYAP inc.) from 2007 - 2021 some can be found in the Broadway area, downtown Saskatoon and riversdale. One of her more noteable mural projects done for the Canada 150 years celebration depicts the idea of reconcilliation with indigenous people. Her artwork was recreated and painted by SCYAP inc. In downtown Saskatoon on 2nd Avenue and 24th Street. On occasion April has tought graffiti and stencil workshops to youth with Saskatoon schools and sometimes other community centres in Saskatoon. April has also used her creativity to help other artists showcase their art and to inspire people to appreciate graffiti/ street art with an annual "We Needi Graffiti" art exhibit. It is a group show meant to give the artists a more professional setting to showcase their artwork. And give the community a chance to appreciate graffiti and urban art in a gallery setting. She has been curated and organizing this exhibit from 2009 to 2017 Sometimes she uses her artwork to try and create awareness for certain issues, some of which include murdered and missing indigenous peoples (MMIWG2S+) and the everychild matters movement. April hopes that her art will expand horizons and open minds. She wants people to embrace urban street art and graffiti and appreciate it because if it is channelled respectfully in can be a positive force in our communities.
