ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This highly textured work is part of the Purely Textural Map Points series. Each work illustrates a different adventure, a new part of the globe experienced. Often, it is the overlooked color or texture that catches my imagination. 'Ruby Beach Shell' is a luminous and opal like work. The painting 'flashes' gold and blue, similar to labradorite or opal. Those bold and bright areas? Soft gold. While hiking along the Pacific Coast, I explored the famous Ruby Beach in Washington State. It was a silvery kind of day, the sea mist obscured the stacks, and the sand, sea, and horizon blurred. I found a tiny bit of shell, held it up to the light and loved the play of opal like colors against the misty grey environment. I began creating an opal like substructure, and gradually added the darker grey and blue texture. This square work looks wonderful alone, or in a grouping. The proprietary and unique texture and paint are applied to canvas. The painting and texture continue on the edges for a complete and finished look. No need for framing, the work is ready to install, is wired, and includes hardware.

My family moved to the US from a tiny island in the English Channel. As a child, I would play in the tidal pools, explore the forests, and very carefully, very, very carefully, walk along the cliffs. Guernsey is still my heart, although now the hearty state of Minnesota is my home. My love for water, the sea, the stones and rocks, the trees and wildlife, are combined with my passion for travel and history, and somehow, all this tumbles out onto the canvas. My current series are Purely Textural, Witnessing Waves, Shifting, Road Trip, and my zero waste project, the tiny Fireflies. I hope you enjoy my art, and are able to explore a bit of the magic the canvas holds.
