BIOGRAPHY OF ESTHER GARNEAU Born in 1980, Esther Garneau first began a career in the health field after having studied there. At the dawn of her thirties, her passion for artistic creation took over and the idea of making it her profession crossed her mind. It was in 2014 that she left the security of her job behind to devote herself to her art full time. With more than one string to her bow, Esther Garneau is also an entrepreneur. In 2015, she co-founded Galerie Zen in Quebec City and became its sole owner a few months later. In 2017, Esther relocated Galerie Zen to St-Jean Street. She offers her works there in addition to those of Alex and Isabelle Desrochers. She specializes in the delivery of works of art internationally and represents with passion her 2 artists with whom she has developed a friendship over the years. There is also the Chacal/E.garneau clothing collection, designed and made by designer Chacal with prints of Esther’s works on fabrics. In 2018, Esther was selected as a permanent artist at Galerie Guylaine Fournier located in Baie St-Paul. It was then that she decided to exhibit and sell her works in art galleries only. Esther Garneau’s artistic approach tends towards gestural abstraction. Ink and acrylic are her favorite mediums. Following the announcement of the imminent death of a loved one, she produced a series of works of colored dots covering the surface of the canvas. This proves therapeutic and quickly turns into a necessity for the artist. She then understood that her art and her way of creating depended on her state of mind. Emotional by nature, creation provided her with benefits by allowing her to put down on canvas her excess of emotions. Over time, she will abandon ink to devote herself solely to acrylic. Now in her forties, Esther Garneau has managed to free herself from her inner demons and her emotionality is now more rational. She takes more time in contemplation, her once hot mind is more tempered. The need to express one’s inner feelings takes another direction. Her goals are clearer and her maturity allows her to better understand what she wants. Following this change, she will add two new collections “Abstract Landscape, Modern and Contemporary” and “One thing at a time”. Emotion is still the engine of her creativity and she intends to continue to express it through her collections. Her production goal is about 400 works per year for as long as her health allows.
