ABOUT THE ARTWORK
This piece is in response to the current gun debate dominating American life and politics currently. In this piece, I dissected the visual representation of a gun down to a hole. The hole, illustrated here in a loose abstracted manner, references the hole created from the bullet of a gun; both a physical hole in the being that was the target of the gun, and a metaphoric hole left in the lives of those connected to that being. The hole, off-centered and placed in what would be the “heart” of the painting, is powerful in it’s simplicity mimicking the power of a single bullet in a gun. Whether used in offense, defense, or recreation - intentions have no effect the result of a gunshot. A hole is a certain consequence and everlasting.
