My painting, “Niños de Maria Sabina,” depicts the renowned Mazatec curandera blessing a young Mazatec girl holding some fresh psilocybin mushrooms. By sharing her shamanic knowledge of the healing power of psilocybin mushrooms with mycologist R. Gordon Wasson, Maria Sabina inspired a renaissance in entheogenic exploration that is only now coming to full fruition. Westerners have enthusiastically explored the psychedelic qualities of “shrooms” for decades now, yet few understand the full spiritual and therapeutic power of the Niños Santos, the Little Saints.
