About The Artwork

The legend of how Icarus and Daedalus escaped from the Cretan Labyrinth by crafting wings shows the creative side of technology. In contrast, the hubris of Icarus flying too close to the sun illustrates the down side of technology. For context, I included a stylized image of the Cretan labyrinth together with the figures of the Minotaur and Ariadne. Behind them, I added anachronistic landscape of industrial smokestacks, another example of the hubris of technology.

Timothy White is a self-taught artist who specializes in depicting shamanic and entheogenic themes in a magical realism style. Born and raised in India, he has lived in California and Oregon for the last forty years, where he founded and edited a small magazine, "Shaman's Drum," which documented shamanic traditions around the world. He began painting illustrations for the magazine, and he launched a career in painting after retiring.
