Sabungera = lady cock fighter. Originally I planned to make this about a few things that men talk about over beer. sports (basketball and bicycle) music (recorder) weapons (knife) women (of course!) Business (hive - bee's nest) this is quite a stretch hehe Sometimes men try to outdo each other with their stories (two roosters having a crowing battle Then I turned it to a real narrative - to something that men would not talk about. The brutish bald man is married to the lady (see wedding rings on their fingers) The man with a cigarette has an affair with the lady (he holds the queen of hearts in one of his hand). The lady has a heart shaped bracelet with a blurred letter "Q" in it. However, the man in green does not want to continue the affair anymore. That is why he has pushed away the Queen of hearts away from his other cards. He is not successful because the lady has a dagger in her hand - a threat. The threat is that she will tell her husband about it. Perhaps lie even. Her husband is an ex-con (orange penitentiary shirt) and this is also supported by the 5 dots in his left hand. The 5 dots is a symbol of Sigue Sigue Sputnik (a prison gang). Also, he is "under the saya" (as shown) and will believe whatever his wife tells him and do whatever she tells him to do. In fact even right now, in the middle of the card game, he is thinking about the rice (pot behind him) that he still needs to cook. The Sabungera does "sabong" (an allusion to sex) to both men and can also make the 2 men fight.

I paint visual narratives. I try to visualize information, issues, contradictions, scenarios, events, fallacies, and realities of life and weave everything into a story. Lately, my work has been focusing on social and political visual narratives. Most of the time, I use symbolism and prefer to create a scene with elements seemingly disconnected from each other.
