Painting: Oil on Wood.
I grew up around religious imagery and I'm always fascinated by the sometimes bizarre and violent themes
of early Christian art work. This is my rendition of the iconograpy of Saint Agatha. She is historically shown with her breasts lopped off, holding them on a plate. Needless to say, the image of Saint Agatha has fallen out of favor with modern Christians and they usually do not realize that my painting is an accurate image of how Agatha was portrayed. Its also a self portrait as I worked from myself from life.
As a personal comment, it is about the impossible role models women were given throughout history Virginity and motherhood being a woman's worth above all else.
