Sakura I Painting

Continuations of studies on geometry and presence within a framework of context of culture and gender. While the two eye pieces in the series have what at first looks like pretty representations of Japanese iconographic Sakura they are formed from the blooming bodies of women. A humorous nod to the inherently sexual nature of spring, and indeed nature, in a culture where feminine strength and sexuality is discouraged in favour of girlishness and pastel quiescence. The eyes’ gazes are both averted and the shape that holds these scenes below are the upward pointing ‘male’ triangle, but framed within the female rectangle of the piece entire, showing no preference to either gender within the tale being told.
