ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Sample No. 1 was created with artist-made acrylic-based paint. The paint I make is super-saturated with pigment which produces exceptionally bright colors. The image ground is Arches 850gsm cold pressed paper (very thick paper, like cardboard). This painting is the first iteration of an abstract series that uses my favorite pieces of earlier paintings and blows them up into singular works themselves. Using the earlier painting as a reference, The study of the painting detail becomes a new work. Hence the title, Sample. I'm sampling my previous paintings the way a DJ might sample music. To quote one of the most sampled musicians of all time, "I feel good" about this painting series!
