About The Artwork

This flowing horizontal landscape painting captures the emotional nature of flowers and the riveting power of color. Beautiful, orange-red poppies float upon long delicate stems in a cascade of delight as they reach toward the day. The flowers are grounded in prismatic geometric-like leaves filled with tempting shades of green, blue and violet. The cooling effect of shade and shadow can be felt against the sunlit brick. Just behind, hints of a white picket fence frame the expansive bed of flowering blooms drawing attention to their free-styling spirit and capacity to reach beyond limits. This painting was inspired by the idea of reaching beyond limits. I liked that about this particular gathering of poppies that I would pass by each morning on a walk. There was something so gentle and powerful to them that I was drawn to and wanted to record on canvas. I created this artwork on an elongated gallery wrapped canvas. The sides are 1 1/2" deep. This is a signed original that is ready to hang.

ARTISTS STATEMENT: I observe, and participate in, the change of hues. I stand alone in a perspective—influenced by the roads and detours that I’ve chosen. The subjects I interpret on canvas dance with tradition, but underneath exists an individual search for freedom. As a creator, I’ve always been interested in working with color. I see my life as having a palette of its own and I seek to have the chroma of my experiences come through in my paintings. Over time, I’ve realized the only way to achieve this goal is to risk exposure—to unveil my simplified forms to the viewer. Whether the forms operate within the context of landscape or still life, the resulting narrative is always a story of merit, regardless of public perception or understanding. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1958 and then moved to California which is where my parents originally met. I lived there until I was 6 when my family moved across the US to New Jersey for my father's work. I grew up in a creative family and pursued art in college only to leave it upon graduation, dabbling with it over the years that followed. In 2010 I returned to painting on a more committed basis. This was spawned by some significant life changes and painting became my respite. I still reside in New Jersey and as an artist I appreciate the proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City. I've been showing my work since 2011 and continue to do so.
