Seasoup Painting

My Inspiration Photographs of plastic marine pollution provided the initial inspiration for this piece. I became fascinated by the colours and textures, many of which are bright and ‘gaudy,’ as is the case with most of the plastic we consume today. Equally I was disgusted and concerned at the damage this plastic is doing. Scientists believe by 2040 there will be more plastic in our oceans than fish if we continue consuming it at the rate we are doing now. The consequences of this are catastrophic. Process I loosely painted in the composition in consideration of the round canvas board. Over a few weeks I added and subtracted ‘plastic’ leaves of paint and found plastic to create the piece before you. I was conscious of creating a wave sensation using lines and textures to represent the sea.
