Secret Bay Painting

The Arraiolos Carpet is made with "Ponto de Arraiolos", an outstretched cross stitch perfected by the seamstresses of Arraiolos, a charming village in southern Portugal, this technique date back to the end of the 15th century. Needle work, hand embroidered on jute canvas with wool. On the summer of 2022 I visited this bay, so beautiful that I had to draw it! And this is my interpretation, coloring it in an intense way. The green colors were embroidered in “tricôt” stitch, the red and orange colors were embroidered in “flor” stitch, stitches that arise from the alteration of the traditional Arraiolos embroidery technique (innovative technique with patent application in progress). Made in Portugal, approximately 34.449 stitches hand embroidered with needle.
