This piece is part of my Worlds Within Series. In this series, I paint what I imagine to be the microscopic worlds that live inside and around us on the microbial level. We may not be aware of the magnitude of this world just yet, but I believe the microbial world holds immense significance for the nature of reality, and we are only just beginning to grasp it. I stumbled upon this world when I got seriously ill, and realized that my gut was in such dire straits that I needed to learn all I could about how to heal myself or face my imminent mortality. That's when I found out that our world is ruled by microbial life, and we either embrace it or face our own demise. I believe we are in the 11th hour with regard to our natural and physical worlds, and have gone well beyond flirting with our idea of immortality and now face the 6th mass extinction. This series of paintings shows what I interpret as the microbial world within and around us, the world we have ignored too long and need to befriend and work with. And NOW. There is no more time. Sedona Sunset I’ve always felt at home outside in nature. I painted this piece not knowing what it would be, until it revealed itself to me midway. I started by applying random dots of color and relied solely on intuition and trusting the process. When I applied more red in the middle ground, I saw mountains coming alive, and went from there. Soon the sky came to life, and lastly, the foreground. This painting was a labor of love, and though more desert like than where I live, it reminds me of my time hiking on the trails in the hillside above my home.
