I was born too late to ever see Charlie Parker blow, but I've had the privilege of seeing Dizzy Gillespie and Dexter Gordon perform, and I even got to meet them both at a party/jazz tribute event at The White House. It was a Fathers' Day as I remember, and just about everybody in jazz was there to play. I had requested and was granted a Photographer Pass even though I had no press affiliation at the time ... and I had never even used a 35 mm camera before that day. Once the party and the music started I mingled with the musicians and guests, ate BBQ chicken and corn on the cob, and drank from kegs of beer.... just like at any other party in any backyard in the land. I was backstage often, and for a good long while I was ON the stage with the performers to get the best angles for shots. I took hundreds of pictures and hung around for the day with dozens of the biggest names in the history of jazz... but I was always drawn back to Dizzy and Dex. Each cat cooler than the other but both cooler than everyone else in the room, or in this case; everyone else on the South Lawn. That's high praise indeed given the roster of all-time greats that jammed for the "A List" crowd that day! Good jazz will change your mood in a minute, and I can almost SEE the music when one of the masters of bebop are doing their thing. Don't overthink it. Just close your eyes and see the bebop. This piece was created with a mix of paint, epoxy, and silicone oil and has a very eclectic texture, not unlike jazz itself!

After a 30 year career in advertising and sales leadership I escaped the corporate media world a few years ago and can now focus on creating my own work. In other words, I'm an outsider artist that has decades of ideas pouring out. My intent is primarily to create pieces of art that are highly visual and interesting to enjoy and study... but may often express ideas, ask questions, unearth feelings, debate opinions, or sometimes be provocative. Like many paintings though, they're often just a combination of lines, shapes, colors, textures, and space. That said; I hope my work presents a UNIQUE combination of art elements to you and that you like what you see. Better yet, I hope you believe some of my pieces should be included in your collection. I've traveled the world but have always lived in the Philadelphia area. While I have no formal training as an artist, I've been a photographer and I've been around the art community my whole life. My wife Suzanne works as a Docent for the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, and together we've raised three wonderful sons that are all now making their own way in the world. We have a home and our studio in Chester County PA with our Bernese Mountain Dog; Mr Charlie.
