Self-Portrait with Birds Painting

Self-Portrait with Birds is a comical rendition of my day to life life with our pet birds. My birds are part of my life and I couldn't start the day without them. This painting shows a typical morning scene where our birds fly over and try to steal my breakfast. While there is a little bit of poetic license used here (ie. I don't always have all the Budgies free in the house - in fact all but one are in fact aviary breeding birds.), the rest of the birds in this painting are accurate. This painting is dear to me as it depicts one of our birds that we have sadly lost - Loki the Blue Indian Ringneck in the bottom left hand corner. We have since then gained a new family member with George my Blue and Gold Macaw joining us. I chose Oils on Canvas as this is my favourite medium and I chose this comical illustrative style for this painting as it shows the comical personality that both myself and the birds also possess. I hope that you all enjoy this painting as much as I do and I hope it relates to those of us who know how crazy and fun life is with pets. This painting was also a finalist in Townsville's Percival Portrait Prize in 2018.
