This painting can hang vertically or horizontally. I hand build my stretchers and cover them with a panel then do a gallery wrapped canvas. I prepare the surface with a modified fresco technique. This gives the painting a feeling much like that of an artifact. I do multiple rounds of painting, leaving small threads and pops of color. The end result makes the work feel more soulful and developed. This painting was inspired by Senegalese fishing boats, their colorful surfaces, multicultural influences and the beauty of their rough hewed surfaces. There is little use of black in this painting. The colors are rich, deep jewel tones like sap green, deep indigo and dark magenta. I glaze the work so it has a primitive feel, as well as a slick contemporary presence. My works are at galleries across the US and in collections worldwide.
