"Shades of Life" Painting

Art has been an essential part of Maureen's life. Her artistic interests and pursuits can be credited to her parents, since both were skilled artisans. Spending all of her childhood in their workshops she came to discover a great deal of satisfaction and freedom in her craft. After extensive studies and instructiing various levels of art she has worked professionally as an artist for more than 30 years. Her feisty disposition and zest for life are a driving force. With great confidence and determination she has ushered across many thresholds producing murals, wall finishes, decorative and architectural artwork, and fine art as well. She has excelled in many areas of the art field and has extensive knowledge of products and mediums. Her work is both abstract and representational and varies in scale. In her words, " working in the abstract allows for endless imagination and has no boundaries, which enables me to explore texture, color and surface more deeply using a wide range of mixed media and various mediums. I find inspiration in the elements of age , decay and that which is worn, paired with modern clean lines. My process involves many layers of various mediums, generally paints, plasters and papers, applied and excavated in search of two forms - ancient and modern. I see my creative process as an exploration of the inner-self, which journeys through the canvas, beyond the techiques and materials used my desire is to translate or invoke a sense of emotion. Once I can feel a painting then I know that it is done."
