Shahjahan Mosque, Thatta, Sindh, Pakistan. Oil on Canvas, 18” x 24” Patron: Emperor Shah Jahan 17th century Mughal Architecture This exquisitely designed architectural marvel has the most elaborate brickwork and tilework in the entire Indo-Pak subcontinent. The design is a juxtaposition of various design elements borrowed from the architectural languages of the areas conquered by the Mughals up till the 17th century. It is also called “The Acoustic Wonder” as its 93 domes and the arcades supporting them are designed in such a manner that when the Muezzin gives the Azaan (the call to prayer) or the Imam engages in recitation whilst leading the congregational prayer standing in the mihrab, their voice resonates clearly throughout the building right up to the last row of the worshippers- Architecture in the service of Faith. N.B: This orginial painting has been carefully coated with Winsor and Newton matt varnish, serving as a protective shield against both UV rays and potential dust damage.
