About The Artwork

Abstract and emotionally charged Jack’s work is nothing if not authentic. Using strong images to evoke emotion and question convention, acrylic layers build up texture. Jack’s uncompromising work is layered with meaning. Geometric shapes creep into the background suggesting the sharp, boxed in experiences of the past. ‘She’s Beginning’ is poignant in its subject, a child reaches out from darkness to hope, finding the courage to play. Giving the audience both a message of what can be and understanding of what has been. Jack is one of several of our ‘inner family’, beckynewellart. Living with Dissociative Identity Disorder, as a result of extreme childhood trauma, several personalities live within one body each finding talents of their own. Jack, Fi, Elby and sometimes Tom are creative. Jack’s work is particularly notable for his in-depth self reflection, unflinching honesty and quality of fine art. About this painting Jack said : ‘It was quite by coincidence apparently that our therapist bought in a Rupert Bear puzzle the first time she worked with Elby. It was the luckiest coincidence because as it happened Elby had spent her early days entirely attached to her Rupert Bear teddy. Elby was coming from the darkest of all places. Abused in the home both physically and emotionally , trained into Ritual Abuse her entire life and strictly taught to adhere to the topsey turvey conventions of Christianity in public. She had witnessed murder, cannibalism and had been tortured and raped having been sold and handed over by her father. This painting depicts the moment when, unable to speak, she began her first steps to understanding that someone cared. The puzzle seemed like a silent language of knowing.’
