"Sheeba" was painted during a time when I was planning a visit to Ethiopia. The painting helped to confirm that I was doing the right thing in embarking on this adventure to a country I had never been to before. Ethiopia has a rich history and culture that intrigued me and fed into the painting, as alluded to in the title Sheeba, the legendary Queen of Ethiopia. The technique of underpainting in acrylic before working in oils allows accident and experimentation to play a significant part in the process.
