Sheeple (R.E.D.) Painting

This body of work begun initially as an experiment with the application of raw pigments on the canvas, 25 years ago and it evolved into a series of works until today. The raw pigments' strong vibrant luminosity of the colors along textures and layers create a imaginary landscape, open for change. The paintings are heavy, yet very delicate. The source of inspiration comes from old surfaces, like walls or doors. With the passage of time, as a natural consequence of the latter, walls are covered with layers of paint, paper and diverse elements, becoming the holders of traces and collective memories. The abstract forms that arise due to decay and deterioration reveal deeper invisible structures, the “hidden” contained in the visible. The photographer Aaron Siskind captured walls in a beautiful, poetic way, where it is no longer a matter of expressing reality, but of expressing what one feels about reality.
