ABOUT THE ARTWORK

‘Show-ponies’ oils on canvas 80cm x 100cm Touching on the taboo, after posting this on Worldwide Equine Art it created a fierce heated debate. People find this a very challenging image. They seem unable to accept that it maybe possible the model had had her outfit built bespoke to her own design and specification and was wearing it purely for her own pleasure. But i can assure you this was the case and why should that be unacceptable to people? That is the question this paintings asks... Real Art does challenge and it asks difficult to answer questions... Master or slave, who really has the control when it is PLAY and NOT abuse. My ex-wife was Master of her horses, but once Master you automatically become carer taking on the complete responsibility of your charges wellbeing, looking after its every need, so who really has the control?

What is it every artist is trying to achieve? Recognition? Perfection? Fame? Wealth?... Or are they trying to convey something of themselves? To understand the inner workings of what it is to be a human and how that manifests into the people and the world around them? What shall I paint? Do I try to convey a message? Symbolism? Allegory? A legend? A myth? A story? All questions every artist since the cave has been grappling with and no doubt will continue to do so ad infinitum. My ancestors painted religion, I consider myself to be currently painting that which has replaced it in the age of nihilism, narcissism, identity & sexuality. So I'm trying to paint something that challenges the viewer, that dances on the edge of socially and culturally acceptable. Dares the observer to step outside of convention, to hang one of my paintings is going to require something other than just money, something more important than money... you won't see one of my paintings in the high street gallery!     Buy art because you... ...LOVE IT!                                        Guy.
