About The Artwork

The solitude, calm and movement of nature the spherical, depopulated landscapes in which the power and beauty of nature and the vulnerability of humanity are all the more apparent. Through the application of several layers of paint, which are partially removed again, a special depth and luminosity in the structure of the paint is achieved.

Born in 1981 in Austria, Sonja Riemer has been fascinated by colours and shapes since her childhood. She paints with acrylics, oil, copper and iron on canvas and models objects with clay using various other materials. Her work has been awarded the "Kitz Art Award" for sculpture and the "Palm Art Award Certificate of Excellence" for painting and has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Switzerland, Spain and Austria. After decades of autodidactic artistic work, she is currently studying at the School of Art and Design in Zurich, where she currently lives and works. Artistic approach A deep fascination for transience / transformation is visible in all works. The paintings and objects with human representations show emotions despite or precisely because of closed eyes, hidden faces or the complete absence of heads. The intention is to make emotion imaginable. The viewer sees immovable objects that give the impression of moving, of wanting to free themselves. In the wire objects, the corporeal aspect is reduced, deformed and the human image is delimited by exposing the inside, muscles and tendons are shown. In contrast, the loneliness, peace and movement of nature inspire the spherical, depopulated landscapes in which the power and beauty of nature and the vulnerability of humanity emerge all the more strongly.
