Kaliya Kalacheva is a contemporary artist working in abstract painting. Her practice explores repetition, memory, and metaphysical space through layered compositions that investigate the tension between chaos and structure. Her works incorporate metallic, gold, and holographic elements, expanding the painted surface beyond traditional boundaries and introducing light as an active component. She graduated in Painting from the National Academy of Art in Sofia, Bulgaria. In 2011, she received the Edmond Demirdjian Foundation Young Painter Award. She participated in residencies at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris (2014) and Oberpfälzer Künstlerhaus in Schwandorf, Germany (2016). In 2017, she received special recognition at the Women in Art competition in Orlando, Florida. In 2020, she was honored as a young artist at the Biennale in Burgas, and in 2021 she received an award at the National Painting and Sculpture Competition. Her works are included in collections such as the Hugo Voeten Art Center (Belgium), the Imago Mundi Collection, the National Art Gallery (Sofia), and the Sofia City Art Gallery, as well as in private collections internationally. She has held over 20 solo exhibitions and participated in more than 100 group exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad.
