One of the most beloved and memorable childhood experiences was trips to the sea. Palanga, Jodkrante or Nida - all our Baltic coastline with its dunes of white sand, the smell of sun-warmed pines and heather in bloom. Daily morning walks on the wooden walkways to the sea, when the sand is still heavy and damp from the night dew, or an evening promenade with people dressed up as if for theatre, going to see the sun set into the sea. Jogging along the very edge of the wave, as if playing or flirting with a huge colossus of the sea. And the salty wind blowing out all the bad thoughts. I still love it all so much. In recent decades, severe winter storms have washed away much of the coastal dunes, and in order to protect this unique and apparently fragile ecosystem, the dunes have been lined with the trunks of young pine trees. Soon enough, exposed to the sun and the salty wind with sandy dust, the pine trunks become silver and the needles turn a copper-golden color. A combination reminiscent in its complexity of detail and color of antique precious forging, where silver and gold threads are intricately woven together in a single piece. And also, looking at this living carpet, one is reminded of Japanese art with its sophisticated aesthetics of color and line. I found it very beautiful. I have painted several diptychs on the subject. This is one of them.

For the past few years, I have been concentrating on the theme of animate and inanimate nature. Starting with the theme of roots and delving into the beauty and variety of small details of flowering meadows. In the context of nature, I include lonely images of people as an integral part of the living world. In depicting human beings, for me, it is not only their physical beauty that is important, but also the transmission of their momentary mood, psychological well-being. Sometimes in my drawings I allow myself to be ironic about myself and what I find funny or remarkable in other people. But at the same time, I consciously avoid depressive and aggressive images, because it contradicts my inner ethic not to multiply the violence in the world. I would like to classify my work as Magical Realism, but I think my work reflects more of a psychological Existentialism, looking for its embodiment in natural motifs. 1995-1999 studies at Vilnius Academy of Arts and in 1999.
