About The Artwork
This painting was made by routing a grid onto each of two plastic sheets, clamping them and then pouring different colours of paint through the structure with a syringe. . The paint finds its way through the object and settles randomly between the sheets - assigning a colour to each of the squares within the grid - before dripping out. Once the object is filled, the final composition and colour changes are painted on the surface based on the placement of colours that have been randomly ‘selected’ by the object itself. . It’s a pretty convoluted process and an inherently perverse one - that a wall-mounted sculpture could dictate a painted surface. I suppose it’s quite an absurd idea really, but that continues to fascinate me.
