Sleepwalking Painting

The atmosphere I create is the one that remembered places and events have in my memory or dreams. Elements are presented not in the rational order of things but in terms of their emotional importance. Very often, as in the case of this painting, I use collage to inch closer to the environment I'm composing. Shape, and color are ripped from magazines and photos to rough the proportions and feel of the piece. From there I use the collage as a guide but also as a point of departure. My paintings are process driven, if something about the way the paint behaves adds to the look of what I'm after, I keep it. The style is anchored in geometric shapes as the event I'm portraying is usually inextricably tied with the room or dwelling it occurred in. The transparent quality of form serves to indicate the layers of consciousness. This piece is ready to hang with eyelets and hanging wire secured to the back.
