ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This montage-like painting, consists of several parts. The whole of the work is brought together by the interior of the Pancho Arena in Felcsút. The career and possibilities of a Hungarian little boy appear in a semicircle. Viktor Orbán, the Hungarian prime minister, likes football. In his native village of 1,800 people, in Felcsút, opposite the parental house, he built himself an arena with a capacity of 3,800 people from public funds. Thus, every inhabitant of Upper Csúcs - including babies - can invite one more person, even if they do not fill the arena. In Hungary, a lot of public money goes to sports, especially to football, but we don't even have a remarkable team. However, education and health are no longer spent. This is especially evident now in the pandemic period. Hungarian society is highly polarized. In the countryside today, a Hungarian child has two careers: either studying at home (if he can study) and being a public worker, or going abroad as a migrant. At present, more than 600,000 people have left Hungary and moved to the EU. These are mostly young, foreign-speaking, highly educated, mobile people. The future of the country. The picture shows a detail of the Glasgow Scool of Art 2018 Degree Show poster, with which I symbolized the opportunity and significance to study abroad. This painting is part of my Series of our Act, which consists of my political critical and social critical artworks. In recent years, I have used OSB as a basis. By retracting the paint layers, I use the texture of the veneer as part of my compositions to create a unique rustic industrial atmosphere. Due to the OSB plate, these artworks are heavy. This is recycled art. The painting is made with self-made paint, which basically consists of pigments and beeswax. Does not contain oil or other paints. The procedure itself dates back to antiquity and has been known for thousands of years. Only few artists around the world work with wax on its own. Artworks made with encaustic are characterized by bright color and silky light. Thanks to the well-preserving properties of the wax, the colors do not fade over time and retain their liveliness. Encaustics paintings, like paintings taken with oil, must be protected from water and physical influences. Do not place under glass when framing! Over time, they become dusty or slightly oxidized by the wax. In this case, it is advisable to wipe with a slightly crumpled kitchen paper towel and the painting regain their original brilliant color and shine.

„I show the details instead of the whole, sort of inviting the viewer to embrace and understand their surroundings” Dora Stork was selected artist in the London Art Biennale in 2023, an award-winning Hungarian painter whose art has appeared in solo and group exhibitions in the UK, Hungary, and Romania. Her work can also be found in many private collections in the United States, the European Union, and Japan. Dora is an abstract realistic encaustic artist: abstract in the world of color, realistic in the world of form, and symbolist in meaning. As a politically minded painter, she is interested in public life as well as social and economic processes. She presents her particular vision in these works. The dreamlike compositions are her intuitive reflections on public issues. At the same time, seemingly astonishing, strange circumstances and inappropriate details on a rational sphere might evoke questions in the viewer. She mainly uses pure wax and pigments to make her paintings. Over the years, she has developed a medium that does not contain oil or any non-waxy additives. When she occasionally paints with acrylic, the characteristics of her figurative style transform into an imaginary interpretation of nature. Dora is an active, awarded member of her community and regularly takes part in their group exhibitions every year.
