Slipping Limbo Painting

I paint humanoid plants who exist in a fictional universe, parallel to our own. These characters are based on heroic plant life, that I capture through field drawings while exploring natural environments. I look for plants that have visibly adapted to their peculiar circumstances or have evolved extraordinarily over time, to survive the ever changing conditions of the planet. I draw or paint my collected imagery from the field drawings onto canvas, paper, or wood, forcing the figures to grapple with one another in impossible spaces. The forms become increasingly more human through abstraction, establishing a connection between ours, and botanical resilience against mortality.
