Smoke in the Mountains Painting

Summer forest fires are part of the American west, it is not the panic people think about. Calm and the Beauty of the fire season is just a part of nature and the changing seasons. The smell of smoke and a rose glow covers the landscape sometimes for hundreds of miles. Animals carry on as usual. The time I have spent in the wilderness is deeply rooted in my heart and those feelings seem to easily make their way into my work. I paint mostly from the subconscious at some point the painting lets me know where it wants to go then i finish the painting with conscious intent. This painting revealed a wonderful momma grizzly, I just had to bring her and her cub more into the clear. I use a minimal amount of information to describe the scene, I want the majority of the painting to be unaltered from the first part of the unconscious process.
