I am an artist and bronze caster; I run a home-studio bronze casting foundry called 'Vulcan's Foundry', from which we cast small scale bronze and run workshops. In 2016 I undertook a Winston Churchill travel fellowship to Nepal and India, to study the traditional methods of bronze casting using natural and locally sourced materials, with the aim of instigating some of these traditional methods in my own foundry. My work is an ongoing response to the vicinity in which I visit or live, focusing on the relative culture and aesthetics of each place. I aim to employ an expressive style of mark making to convey the diversity of form I see, and to capture the tactile truth of nature- Nature not only in its untamed environment; but also in the form that it takes in urban settings. I find interest in architectural details, human traditions and recurring natural features. It is rare that I portrays a world without people- the movement and intrigue that people provide play a core part in the scenes that I set. I specialise in particular in low relief carving. I have completed commissions for The United Guilds Service of St Paul's Cathedral, a Chorister Medal and a commemorative portrait medal of Dr Andrew Burnett for The British Museum. In 2013 I was the British Art Medal Society New Medallist. Through this, I studied the collections of medals within the archives of the British Museum and the V&A, spent a period of study within the engraving department at the Royal Mint, and lived in Bulgaria for 6 weeks studying medal making with renowned Professor, Bogomil Nikolov. I returned to Bulgaria in 2015 for an International Artist Symposium in Veliko Tornovo.
