ABOUT THE ARTWORK
When we find someone in our lives that fills a void, we get excited. Finally, we’ve found what we were searching for. Then we get comfortable because we’re secure about the situation. We feel safe and happy. We are content. Then as time goes by we start to grow apart and we can’t seem to know why. We may be able to identify why but often times it’s already too late to salvage. When we start to realize this, they’re gone and hard to reach. We start to feel emptiness surround us. We were so close yet so far from what we dreamed of. We can see times like these as reminders that being present and openly communicating is the key to any relationship in life.

Salina Mendoza is a Mexican and Taíno American artist who's work is associated with minimalism, hard-edge painting, and repetitive use of lines. Her work is inspired by uncomfortable emotions observed in the real world, brain vibrations, repetition, color, and mental health. Currently, Salina is a curator and partner at Low Key Gallery in Downtown Santa Ana, CA. She is the founder and managing director of Artist Safespaces, a non-profit who designates public and private safespaces for artists to do live art for free. She is the 2019 OC Laureate and works closely with several Orange County municipalities to organize their art communities. Salina also splits her time between art and tech as a Senior Product Manager for one of the leading primary ticketing platforms in the US.
