The paintings of Michael Rich reflect an approach to nature and the landscape through the language of contemporary abstraction. Extensive travels through Italy and France; and a life spent around the waters of New England have shaped a love and interest in the rhythms of color in the natural world. Michael's paintings are poetic spaces of memory in color that are visceral and physical. His work has been featured in numerous exhibitions internationally over the last 30 years and was recently featured during the 2022 Venice Biennale at the European Cultural Centre and Art Capital at the Grand Palais, Paris. Other exhibitions include features in Madrid, Spain; Bologna and Ferrara, Italy. Educated at RISD and the Savannah College of Art and Design, Michael lives and works in Massachusetts and is a Professor of Visual Arts at Roger Williams University. His work is featured in numerous private and public collections including: The Bronx Museum of the Arts, NY; Museum of Southern Art, New Orleans, LA, the Rhode Island School of Design Museum, the Springfield Museum of Art, Springfield, OH and the Smithsonian Institute, Washington, DC. Michael is represented by Adler & Co., Silicon Valley, ARC Fine Art, Fairfield, CT and the Old Spouter Gallery, Nantucket. He is cofounder of 3 Gables Studio with his wife, the painter, Monica Lee Rich.
