About The Artwork
For my last solo exhibition I produced a series of portraits of musical legends, some of them suggested by friends on Facebook. I wasn't familiar with Sonny Rollins, but a friend who is a keen sax player suggested him and I found a wonderful photo to work from. Brass instruments are always challenging to paint, but with this one I'm really pleased at how it just looks like paint when you're close up to it, but stand back and it becomes a shiny saxophone.

I've been painting in acrylic since 2014 and have taken inspiration from David Hockney, Francoise Nielly and Solly Smook. Recently I found my own style with my series of Scottish landscapes, but I continue to experiment with my Lockdown-inspired images and have lately produced my series of Painted Ladies.
