ABOUT THE ARTWORK

I keep returning to this place. If you are familiar with California and Lake Tahoe, it's along highway 80 heading east at the Rainbow exit. There, in the spring, the run off from the snow is thunderous! The South Fork of the Yuba river descends the mountains and has both peaceful and active places, perfect for a day of painting. The air is crisp and cool, the colors are vibrant and new. The pandemic instilled in me a deeper reverence for spring, renewal and hope, as well as the physical appreciation for my sensed: seeing and breathing, feeling and experiencing nature. I hope these feelings transcend the view you have looking at the painting on the internet or in person. All my work is created with the best materials I can afford: lightfast paint (Gamblin) and non yellowing conservation quality varnish. All paintings come with hardware for hanging.

Joanne Evers grew up along the mountains and shores of Lake Tahoe, California. She received a BA in Graphic Design and Illustration from San Diego State University, and painting instruction with Wayne Thiebaud at the University of California, Davis. Currently she is learning Chinese Calligraphy from Aqin Zhou, at the University of California Berkeley. Evers has had solo exhibitions, participated in group shows, and has sold artworks both nationally and internationally. Evers paints in plain aire, in the Sierra Nevada mountains with the outdoors as her studio. Bringing the majesty of the Sierra Nevada to canvas and paint, Evers' outdoor plain aire painting is influenced by other plain aire artists such as: Monet, Van Gogh, Millet, The Group of Seven, Helen Frankenthaler, Georgia O'keefe, Emily Carr, Maynard Dixon, Elmer Bishoff, Richard Diebenkorn, Wayne Thiebaud, and Chiura Obata. She expresses the peace, power, life force, and joy of nature to her paintings. Exploring themes of climate change, time, water, and an ever evolving relationship with the trees, wildlife and mountains. While at the same time sharing space with the sunshine, mountains, shadows, fresh air, and bird song in the environment; part painting, part just being outside. "Capturing the profound expression of an artist’s inner greatness, Spirit Resonance is a timeless concept in a shifting world. Tracing back to the 6th century scholar Xie He, this principle asserts that something ineffable is transmitted from artist to artwork in the act of creation." - "Three Thousand Years of Chinese Painting" Evers lives and works in the Sierra Nevada mountains of northern California, USA.
