When I emerged in the New York East Village art scene in the early 80’s my work was described as Neo-Surrealism. My contemporaries at the time were George Condo, Peter Schuyff, David Humphrey and Kjell Erik Killi Olson. We were reexamining and refreshing the ideas of the original surrealists with a postmodern viewpoint. Today I am more am more influenced by the current political and social issues of the day. My new work could be called New Surrealism. Combining social consciousness with disruptive narratives, I seek to address concerns that worry people everywhere. Subjects that my protagonists debate in their vague urban environments include, class conflict, men’s abuse of women, economic inequity, and male /female interactions. Hopefully the works stimulate the viewer to question these ideas.
