About The Artwork

My goal was to portray communications that we have through dreams, visions, and feelings. The feeling I wanted to bring is the voice of my ancestors which comes through visual signs in dreams and energy that is felt in certain environments. It describes messages from ancestors/ the deceased members of the family of tasks and journeys we need to take to give us strength. Communication is mainly through dreams. In our Xhosa culture, we believe that a family member who has passed on becomes an ancestor/ guardian angel. The patterns are my interpretation of traditional patterns borrowed from isiXhosa, isiZulu, and Ndebele. I feel these patterns and colours are a strong symbol of the South African ethnicity.
