This is a series of three paintings, called 'Splat'. Where a single free brush stroke forms the whole composition on the otherwise flat backgrounds. The background colours on these three paintings remain different, so does the black stroke. This stroke signifies the silhouette of life - whereas the background colours (orange, yellow and gray) the different phases of life. Orange and yellow being the brighter ones, visually as well as symbolically, whereas gray being the dim. However the flow and force of the brush stroke on different backgrounds still suggests the positivity of being alive, no matter what the phase of life otherwise.

Shoa Malik is a British Pakistani Artist. She is a Graphic Designer by profession and in parallel over the past decade, has been creating abstract art which has been showcased in multiple exhibitions notably in London and Berlin. To Shoa, fine art has always been an expression of the inner self – a form of expression that can be as specific or as vague as the soul desires – a culmination of ideas. Shoa’s fine art draws strong influences from the abstract expressionist movement of the 1940s and 50s, particularly the likes of Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko – blending her unique perspective into this style of work. She has worked in various mediums including ‘oil’ and ‘acrylics’; and uses ‘house-paints’ for the drip-painting technique, as was favoured by Jackson Pollock himself. She favours working on large canvases, resulting in an expereience that is not only liberating for the artist but also draws in the viewer on a spiritual level; initiating a dialogue between the two. These large-scale artworks also have the potential to derive the mood and theme of any interior/space they are displayed in. Her current display in Berlin (Galeria Azur) has been an exploration of the self and the personification of the ‘inner voices’ in the form of varied conversations - entitled ‘The Voices Within’ - focusing specifically on the emotions experienced by individuals during the recent global pandemic and resulting lockdowns; namely – ‘Contradiction’, ‘Serenity’ and ‘Rage’. Each painting allows the viewer to connect to a specific emotion that felt relevant to them; initiating a dialogue with the relevant painting as well as their inner self. Another recent series of her abstract art was exhibited at ‘The Brick Lane Gallery’ in London, in Feb 2023; and ‘Art Below’ in Notting Hill Gate, London. Shoa graduated at the top of her class, from the prestigious National College of Arts (NCA), in Pakistan - majoring in Graphic Design, with minors in Photography and Ceramics. She is a recipient of the Chughtai Award - a President of Pakistan award given to the top-performer across all schools in the institution. Shoa currently resides in the UAE, with her husband and Mr. B, her cat! :) Follow Shoa on Instagram for updates on all her creative endeavours:
