S T A R R Y ✶ N I G H T, original painting on canvas | ready to hang & frame as desired. Dimensions: 60 (width) x 80 (height) x 3,5 cm (depth) / 23.6 x 31.5 x 1.4 in. Materials: earth & mineral pigments, coffee and amber shellac (natural binder). Artwork is signed (also on the back of the canvas). About | "Starry Night” is an atmospherical painting which radiates with a mystical energy into the interior space when it is exposed. It is a meditative artwork which represents the magical power of the starry sky and the lonely traveler who has stopped in the middle of nowhere and is humbly amazed by the scene above him. The art style that I used is a technique that I've been exploring for many years. It comes from the legacy of 'abstract expressionists', especially the great painter Jackson Pollock. When I paint I mostly don't even touch the surface of the canvas, I'm just dripping the paint trough hundreds of layers. The illusion of the relief structure is one of the consequences of multilayered surface. It was really important that I used only 'natural materials', because I believe they are the only ones that can give all the essential features needed. The underpainting was made with coffee and then I used high quality earth and mineral pigments combined with amber shellac to complete the painting. It has rough uncorrected edges and is very resistant.

Andrej Mratinković was born in 1984 in a town Celje in Slovenia. He graduated at the Department of Fine Arts at University of Maribor in 2011. When he decided to study fine art, he quickly came to realize that his work will also be to deeply analyze all the components that will give him an artwork that he truly strive for; and for that he would need a lot of exploration, experimentation and experience. A turning point in his artistic development was the discovery of artworks by sculptor Mirsad Begić, who inspired him with his incredible work, personal mythology and introduced him to natural materials, especially "coffee". Mratinković's main fields of creativity are drawing, painting, small sculptures, digital art and graphic design. His art work is often linked with concepts like: imagination, primacy, archaism, mysteriousness, mysticism and poetics. /// Contact:
