A view of one of the alleys in the historic centre of Naples, it is part of a series of works inspired by this city full of history, life and humanity, and which is part of my father's history, part of my family's history, and therefore mine. These works came about after my last trip there with him.

Livia Alberico was born and raised in Milan by an Italian father and a French mother. Her love for art comes from her maternal family and it is thanks to her frequent stays in Paris that she comes into contact with the city’s rich cultural activity. Her first references are in fact the School of Paris, post Impressionism and the ancient art of the Louvre collections. During the years of her artistic education she approaches the environment of writing and counter culture of Milan in the 90s and in that same period she discovers the American abstract expressionism and the work of NY artists of the 80s. Then she begins to prefer the use of markers because they encourage the urgency of the action and are useful to create signs, traces and lines. When the gaze lingers on the forms of nature, these tools facilitate and assist the gesture but at the same time they prevent to yield to the pressure of time due to the limitations of the instrument. Urban landscapes also become an inspiration: the city is her main interest, therefore turns her attention to the volumes and the shapes, to the places and objects of the city: images of streets, windows and balconies are frequently repeated in her drawings where the figure is only perceived. In her work, there is a desire to enhance the slowness and patience of the oldest crafts, that’s the reason why she builds line after line and incorporates on the surface fragments of embroidery and textile works to which she assign a generational value to redeem their memory and beauty. It is an intimate work, inspired by her own experiences that evokes the search for inner places, moments of lived time, captures memories and suspends them in time.
