About The Artwork
Portrait of "Bishop Black" a friend and burlesque performer painted from life in 17 sessions in the winter/spring of 2010 I was inspired by the grand neo classical portraiture of David and Ingres. also the stage name of the individual inspired me to use the sumptuous cardinal's robe that i'd had as a studio prop. used drawings and a mannequin on which to complete the folds of the robe ,it being equally important and grand as the sitter.
