ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Inspired on my Studies of shape and colour block prints, this paintings collection reflects my simple willing to finally show myself and my process openly. I believe that art can speak many languages , can be direct and obvious if that's the main concept that the artist want to show, here that's the case. Big, bold and obviously direct. Finding always visual inspiration in the mediterranean landscapes of my childhood and living in a visually completely different country, the Bold collection helps me find the balance between what I have and what I´m missing, a constant duality in my work, using minimal elements like colours and texture. The use of about 20 layers of paint helps me create a texture very similar as the white mediterranean walls, using the background as a perfect canvas for my geometrical landscapes. The paintings are done onto raw linen and cotton canvases superposing multiple layers of paint in different colors, but leaving the lines that draw the shapes completely raw, that gives the paintings a very intense look and great depth. The artwork is framed with a waxed wooden list for photography and protection purposes. If you want to keep it, it makes a subtle and minimal frame, if not, it can be easily removed.

Hi! My name is Aina Melis and I am the mind and the hands behind BcnTku Art Studio. I´m a Mallorcan artist, graduated in Fine Arts at the university in Barcelona, which is the place I love the most, and were I lived for many years. That is the BCN in BcnTku. Later on I moved to Turku in the south-west Finland, were I have formed my family and started this project, thats the TKU. I'm a graduated painter who left a career aside mainly because of fear and an uncomfortable feeling of showing myself. Always in the search of personal balance, that ended up being also the main subject or or better said main carrier of my work. Lately, my willing for experimenting in arts has lead me to translate my visual ideas into another of my favourite techniques, the linocut printing, which i love. I am a person of process and printing it´s all about the process. I use both basic shapes and mainly primary colours to fill the empty space, so the lines fluid together leading to precise and balanced geometric compositions where the ideas of symmetry-asymmetry and pulling and letting go play the main role. The use of classic minimalistic compositions and my love for suprematism, and the Bauhaus ideas and aesthetics, show constantly in my work. I am a mother of two small ones, and I share the studio and life with the father of them, who also happens to be a creative mind; his work brings the colour, spontaneity and chaos. Although our styles and compositions are visually opposite, we both have influenced mutually and developed together and nowadays our works complement and balance each other´s and they both can be found in this space.
