My art embraces the two continents Europe and Africa, where I spend my life, and which greatly influence my paintings. The initial inspiration for art surrounded me in the Black Forest of Southern Germany where I was born and grew up. My latent enthusiasm and talent was seen and nurtured by my uncle, the sculptor and painter Josef Rombach, and it was in his studio as a child, that I spent a lot of my time. Under his guidance, insight and care, I learned to become acquainted with the visual arts and different techniques. The style of my art emerged during extended living in many African countries, mainly Liberia, Togo, Benin, Gambia, Ethiopia and Rwanda which strongly inspired my art. In my paintings you will discover visual and emotional influences of both people and places where I lived. It was in Africa where I became inspired to not only capture the visual but also the cultural experiences. These were enhanced and honed after meeting the American artist and teacher Hollis Chatelain in Cotonou. Together we spent many days not only in the studio but also in villages – sketching, drawing and painting “life”: people, their homes and the landscapes. During this time, on frequent returns to Germany, I attended the Hamburg art school of Peter Paulwitz-Matthäi. My paintings and drawings can be found in many private collections in Europe, Africa, USA, Central America, and Australia. After 6 years in the lively and inspiring city of Freetown/Sierra Leone, I moved back to Germany in 2022. I'm looking forward to new artistic challenges. Techniques: I mainly work with acrylics on canvas – an ideal medium for my flowers, portraits and abstract pieces but I also enjoy creating collages, monotypes, and mixing different media.
