Painting is both a physical and mental endeavor. The physical process of using line, brush strokes, scrapes and layering in my painting reflect energy, light, and movement. The experiential element of the painted image is a really important aspect to these works. To experience the physicality of the process is to experience my energy going into each piece. I also draw upon the energy and movement in the world around me. Everything is always in motion, so that is a common theme throughout my body of work. Each piece evokes movement of body and of spirit. They take us into an imagined world where we can connect with the human experience, emoting energy and a physical rhythm. Behavioral and environmental issues today are impactful, but human struggle has always been present. My work often is an examination of trials, both human and natural, but in the light of hope. The works push boundaries of concept and form where imagination becomes reality. They are an investigation of resilience, vulnerability, cooperation and joy.
