Peter Gilchrist Gooch Corrales, New Mexico Born 1 May 1947, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The son of Marjorie Gilchrist Gooch, a teacher in the Public School System, and Donald Burnette Gooch, Professor Emeritus, University of Michigan and founder of the Michigan Water Color Society. He attended University High School, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and later the University of Michigan. He served in the USAF, and after his discharge, received a BS degree in English Literature, and a BFA degree from Eastern Michigan University. He received a Master of Fine Arts Degree (painting) with Honors, from Western Michigan University, where he was later elected to the Alumni Academy, and received the 100 Bridges Award for distinguished alumni. After receiving his MFA, he taught first at Eastern Michigan University, and then at the University of Dayton, where he taught all levels of painting on the Fine Arts faculty until his retirement in 2012. While on faculty at the University of Dayton, he was awarded two Summer Research Fellowships, a University of Dayton Research Institute Senior Research Fellowship, and was awarded an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Ohio Arts Council. He served on the Board of Directors for the Ann Arbor Art Association, and the Michigan Water Color Society. Throughout his career, he maintained an active gallery schedule with representation in major cities in the Midwest. His paintings were widely exhibited in national venues including: the National Watercolor Society Exhibition; the Rocky Mountain National Watermedia Exhibition (Signature Membership); the National Mid-year Exhibition; the Valdosta National Exhibition; the Annual Mid-States Art Exhibition; the Michigan Water Color Society Exhibition among others. His work was shown at the Huntington Art Museum; the Evansville Museum of Arts & Science; the Butler Institute of American Arts; the Ella Sharp Museum, among others. In addition to numerous private collections, Prof. Gooch’s work is included in the following public collections: University of Michigan Museum of Art; University of Michigan Rackham Graduate School; School of Art, Western Michigan University; Michigan Artists Collection; John Fetzer Business Development Center; University of Dayton Office of Human Resources; Roesch Library, University of Dayton; Art Department, Eastern Michigan University; Washtenaw Community College.
