ABOUT THE ARTWORK

This painting is one of two that were made live on SkyVIP during a live streamed workshop in June 2020 during the COVID academic. 25% of the price of this artwork will be donated to the mental health charity Mind who support people across the UK who need support at this time.I know from speaking to many people on the workshop and through social media- being creative has helped people deal with the challenges that have occurred since the pandemic. I feel that it is a worthwhile cause.Part of a series of work made during from drawings made on location in Jamaica whilst filming Landscape Artist of the Year at the Golden Eye estate- home of Ian Fleming, the creater of James Bond. This was his garden, built in the 1950’s that entertained the big names of the day.

Tom Voyce

Tom Voyce

United Kingdom

Tom Voyce (b. 1989) is an established UK painter with international exposure. His subject matter comprises of a variety of different themes such as airports, railway stations, roads and bridges and other places of transit. Voyce’s compositions consistently demonstrate an interest in the formal elements of composition: structure, perspective, shape and light. His paintings are accounts of fleeting moments within a landscape; the fall of light on a building, or the shadows cast by a motorway flyover. The strength in these pieces lies not in their faithful depiction of a landscape, but in their suggestion of a sense of place, of being present within a particular space at a particular moment. Artists such as Edward Hopper and Richard Diebenkorn have been immensely influential in his development, as have more contemporary artists- American painter Ben Aronson amongst others. Hopper's proverb, "if you can say it in words, then there's no reason to paint it", forms a principal part of my attitude towards the uniquely communicative purpose of art. His latest body of work entitled 'In Transit' is influenced by travel and place, exploring the landscapes and cityscapes of Canada, the United States, Fiji and New Zealand.
