About The Artwork

Part of the "Dance Series" of expressionist paintings. There art three (3) reasons to buy art: 1. You are making what you believe to be a good financial investment in an asset you believe will appreciate in value over time. 2. You want art to decorate your home or office and you have taken the advice of a gallery owner or other “professional” about what you should hang to appear to be cultured and art knowledgeable. 3. You find the art aesthetically appealing and you just plain enjoy looking at it. Of these three reasons I find only the third to be a valid reason to buy any piece of art. Art should be something you enjoy looking at, over and over again. You should not be buying it because others think it is a good investment or that it will “give the right impression” of you. If you do not like the piece of art enough to want to look at it every day for the rest of your life, then you are buying it for the wrong reason. As with almost all of my paintings, it is signed, dated and titled on the reverse.

While I was in graduate school I began to paint as a relief from stress. My art has been heavily influenced by Vasarely, Kelly, Agam, Newman and Stella so my earliest works are derivative of these artists. My works date from the mid-1970's and have evolved correspondingly to the present. In addition to being an Artist, I also have been collecting modern art since I was a teen. The first piece of art I ever bought was a reproduction of Picasso's "Femme" (which I still have and display). The next piece was a Vasarely print entitled "Folklore" (still have that too). As I have matured as a collector, I have developed a taste for original works by unknown (or relatively unknown) Artists. For me collecting art is less about investing and more about aesthetics. While I would like to own an original DeKooning or Diebenkorn for their artistic content, I know that it is unlikely I will ever have the financial means to do so. I have only produced around 180 art works since I began painting in 1975. My works are few and I do not part with them easily. Each has meaning for me for my own appreciation and enjoyment. It is my hope that you deem my work worthy of viewing and perhaps even enough so to purchase.
