Michel Das, Painter: A Journey Between Abstraction and Pop Art Born in Lyon in 1964, Michel Das discovered his artistic calling at 20 at the National Gallery in London. After training in photography and at the Bellecour School of Applied Arts, he fully committed to painting in 1992. His style, which evolved from bad painting toward Pop Art, blends African, Asian, and Western influences with touches of Fauvism and Cubism. Defining himself as a colorist and a photographer, Michel Das merges techniques from photography, AI, and color. His work seeks the simplicity and purification of lines and colors, which is reflected in his use of large, uniform solid blocks of color. He also employs personal methods like virtual collage and cut-paper collage. He distinguishes himself with his bold practice of the "graphic knot," a technique he intentionally adopted against academic teachings.
