View In My Room
I saw this sweet potato growing roots and branches at the place of my friends Barbara and Ben. It had gotten pushed into the back of a kitchen shelf or drawer and had started to sprout there, until Ben noticed it and pulled it out again. Now it is sitting on their dining table as an unusual (and unusually beautiful) decoration. It reminded me of the root plants that some people buy to decorate their homes. My favourite of this kind is Stephania erecta. But you know what, a sweet potato is also a root plant! Why are some special and get sold in flower stores, and others just end up on our dining table? As a reminder of the beauty of down-to-earth things, I painted the sweet potato as a home decoration. If you want one, too, just go to the supermarket and pick up a bag. PS: Don’t get me wrong, I still want my Stephania erecta!

My art wants to put a smile on your face. All of my paintings tell a story, and every story has a little twist. You'll have to look closely: details matter to me. I was born and grew up in Taiwan, and moved to the Netherlands in 2014, where I am again living now after a 2-year stint in San Diego. You can check out my Instagram for a mix of work in progress and snapshots of my life with husband and cat.
